After over 35 years, the potent GT500 brought Carroll Shelby’s legendary name back to the Ford Mustang lineup in 2007. Powered by what amounted to a mildly detuned version of the Ford GT supercar’s 5.4-liter V-8, with a wet-sump oil system, cast-iron block, and Roots-type supercharger, it offered some 500 horsepower, making it, at the time, the most powerful roadgoing production Mustang ever made. Machined aluminum wheels, a domed hood with heat extractors, and a front air splitter, further aided performance while also lending an appropriately lean, mean appearance. Ford enthusiasts could not help but agree that Shelby was back in a big way, with as near a modern equivalent to his original famed Mustangs as could be imagined.
The 2008 GT500 Convertible offered here was finished in the legendary Ford Total Performance color of Grabber Orange over full black interior and optioned with a black cloth convertible top, the GT500 Premium trim package, Sirius satellite radio, HID headlights, DVD-based navigational system, ambient lighting, and Ebony tape stripes. Its window sticker notes delivery through Sawgrass Ford of Sunrise, Florida.
The original owner, John Miller of Georgia, preserved it faithfully until the fall of 2023, at which point it was acquired for the present owner’s renowned collection. In late 2023, this GT500 was fitted with new Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires, an invoice for which is included in the file.
As near a new example of the 2008 GT500 Convertible as can likely be found, this is an exceptional collector-grade Shelby Mustang. Alternatively, it is ready for a new owner to break it in, savoring the remarkable and thrilling power as Shelby himself no doubt intended.
