Launched as Aston Martin’s ultimate track-only hypercar, the Vulcan was the British automaker’s answer to the highly exclusive, client-driven research and development initiatives of McLaren and Ferrari. Only 24 examples were produced, each commanding a princely sum of over $2 million. With its rarity, lineage, and ferocious performance, the Vulcan swiftly secured a place in the upper echelon of today’s hypercar elite.
The story of the Vulcan traces back to 2014, when Fraser Dunn, then chief engineer of Aston Martin’s Q advanced engineering division, and David King, director of advanced operations and motor sports, discovered a cache of seemingly forgotten One-77 prototypes. Their first thought was simple: make it faster. They envisioned a One-77 R—a radical, track-focused evolution of the already extraordinary road car. The idea, however, quickly drew attention from multiple Aston Martin divisions, each eager to make their mark and ultimately transforming the project into a bespoke hypercar with no compromises.
Originally slated to use the 7.3-liter V-12 from the One-77, the car instead received a heavily reworked V-12 directly from Aston Martin Racing’s Vantage GT3 program. Enlarged to 7.0-liters and tuned for maximum output, it was rated by the factory as 820 horsepower with 575 pounds-feet of torque. This immense power could launch the car from 0 to 60 mph in under three seconds and carry it to a top speed of 208 mph, while a six-speed Xtrac sequential gearbox with a magnesium torque tube and carbon-fiber propeller shaft delivered that output to the wheels with surgical precision.
The Vulcan’s One-77-derived carbon fiber chassis features massive Brembo carbon-ceramic brakes lurking behind 12-inch-wide forged alloy wheels. A masterclass in aerodynamics and aggressive design, the fixed rear wing, front dive planes, and underbody diffuser—optimized for the front-engine layout—generate roughly 2,980 pounds of downforce at 190 mph, surpassing the car’s own curb weight. Every vent, contour, and surface is meticulously engineered to achieve the perfect balance of aerodynamic efficiency and visual impact.
Those fortunate enough to slip through the small opening in the roll cage and settle into the Vulcan’s carbon-fiber Recaro racing seat will find a cabin that is unapologetically functional. Awash in Alcantara, carbon fiber, and exposed fasteners, there are few comforts to distract from the task at hand.
Yet the Vulcan’s allure extends far beyond its specifications. Its sensory experience is unparalleled, accompanied by a sonorous exhaust note so intense that some tracks reportedly considered it too loud. Its breathtaking soundtrack, combined with extraordinary capabilities, has cemented the Vulcan as one of the most exhilarating machines to emerge from Great Britain.
Offered from the collection of its original owner, this example is the second of just 24 Aston Martin Vulcans constructed and has been enhanced with the AMR Pro package installed by Aston Martin’s Q division. This £155,000 upgrade improves steering response, downforce, and acceleration by incorporating dive planes, turning vanes under the front splitter, louvered front wheel arches, a dual-plane rear wing with slotted endplates, a lighter carbon-fiber engine cover, and a shorter final drive ratio. Finished in stunning livery of Fiamma Red over lovely cream and red trim, it has seen minimal use, with its odometer showing less than 100 kilometers at the time of cataloguing.
A true triumph of British engineering, the Aston Martin Vulcan is far more than a track-focused hypercar, it is a machine that captivates the senses and leaves a lasting impression. This example, with its striking livery and minimal mileage, offers a truly rare opportunity to experience the raw, untamed spirit that makes the Vulcan so utterly unforgettable.
