Released in 1971, the third-generation Mercedes-Benz SL, chassis code R107, has endured as a status symbol for over 40 years. Richly featured, impeccably built, and eminently powerful, it evolved the luxury tourer concept popularized by its highly regarded predecessor, the W113. Produced over nearly 20 model years, the R107 starred in films and competed in endurance rallies in some of the harshest environments on the planet, a duality that further cemented Mercedes-Benz a foremost manufacturer of impressively engineered automobiles. Beloved by millions, the third generation of the SL roadster stands as one of the true greats.

This 1989 US-delivery example is finished in a lovely color combination of Arctic White over Royal Blue leather with a Dark Blue soft-top—just as it left the factory. It was reportedly registered in Minnesota in the early nineties, after which the car was registered in Nevada through 2009. It then appears to have moved to the Northwest at some point, as indicated by a maintenance inspection and servicing by Mercedes-Benz of Bellevue, Washington, recorded in April 2024.

The car’s 5.6-liter V-8 engine features Bosch KE-Jetronic fuel injection and is paired with a four-speed automatic transmission. As expected from a luxury vehicle of this caliber, this car is equipped with a full complement of features, including fully independent suspension, power steering, four-wheel disc brakes, automatic climate control, cruise control, power windows, automatic antenna, heat insulating glass, folding armrest, sun visors with illuminated vanity mirror, and driver-side airbag. An aftermarket AM/FM stereo with CD player was installed under previous ownership. Notably, it came from the factory with the rear spoiler eliminated.

Acquired by the consignor in March 2025, the car has since had its fuel injection system serviced with new pumps and a new pressure regulator. It showed less than 53,000 miles at cataloguing time and is offered with a color-matched, removable hardtop.
