The first generation of BMW’s M3, the E30, provided the basis for what became the most successful touring car of all time. To satisfy the Group A motorsport regulations, BMW designed its ideal racer and then worked backwards to deliver the required 5,000 roadgoing examples. Production ran between 1986 and 1991, during which time the famed “S14” four-cylinder engine grew from 2.3 to 2.5 liters before the model line bowed out with the revered Sport Evolution special edition.

BMW never built an E30 M3 CSL but, if it had, it would surely have been uncannily similar to the M3 Enhanced & Evolved by Redux. Obsessed with attention to detail, the British firm takes an E30 M3, strips the car, then seam-welds the shell for greater rigidity. The doors and roof aside, new Herringbone pattern carbon fiber body panels have been fitted, and the characteristic front and rear box arches enlarged. This allows for the fitment of 18-inch wheels, per the period DTM race cars, that conceal uprated brakes supplied by AP Racing.

A comprehensive reworking of the engine returns 300 horsepower from 2,500 cubic centimeters, marking a significant step over the 235 offered by the most potent original Sport Evolution. The power arrives at the rear wheels via a close-ratio, five-speed Getrag manual transmission, which retains a dogleg layout. In a package weighing just 2,353 pounds, it is little wonder that the E30 M3 Enhanced & Evolved by Redux garnered rave reviews from the motoring press.

Redux Leichtbau plans to complete just 30 of these beautifully crafted celebrations of a homologation legend. Offered here is the second chassis finished—the first road car built after the track-only original. Formed around a black 1987 E30 M3, this glorious “restomod” was reworked by Redux between 2019 and 2021 in a process requiring a staggering 4,000 hours of labor.

The commissioning owner spent some $567,000 to create their perfect M3. Accordingly, the exterior presents in stunning Midnight Emerald Green, which is preserved by paint-protection film, over an interior retrimmed with Burnt Oak Nappa leather and Alcantara. At the time of cataloguing, this E30 has covered an indicated 340 miles since its painstaking makeover was completed.

With Redux Leichtbau now working on further commissions, here is an incredible opportunity to bypass a waiting list and immediately acquire what is surely the ultimate modern-day interpretation of a truly iconic M car.
